The director-actor duo of Anubhav Sinha and Ayushmann Khurrana is back after Article 15 with their latest film, Anek. Khurrana stars as an undercover cop, who works towards the security of the North-eastern regions in India.
As the cop tries to maintain a sense of peace in the region, one particular separatist group becomes more active than ever: Johnson. In an attempt to unearth the truth of this group, he stumbles upon the stark, shocking realities that the region and the citizens continue to face, till date. He realizes that Johnson, in fact, represents the voices of the common people. However, when he confronts his authorities about the same, he is met with dejection.
The trailer depicts several instances of shameful othering that the North-eastern states of the country continue to face – a realization that forces the cop to raise pertinent questions and take a stand to blur the regional divisions of the nation, and call it what it's meant to be – a nation. 'Sirf Indian kaise hota hai aadmi?' he asks.
Written and directed by Anubhav Sinha, the film stars Khurrana, alongside Manoj Pahwa, Deeplina Deka and Kumud Mishra. Co-produced by T-Series, it releases theatrically on May 27th.
