The teaser of Rajinikanth's Annaatthe was released today, ahead of its Diwali release. It gives us hints about why Rajinikanth raged on a motorbike in the motion poster. Rajinikanth's voiceover says at the start: gramaththaana gunamaadhaana paatirukka, kovappattu paththadhillaye (you've seen good-natured villagers, but have you seen one who is angry)? As he completes that sentence, he is seen tapping an aruvaa on the floor as men run towards him to attack.
The teaser focuses on the film's action, and we don't see anything of other characters played by Nayanthara, Meena, Kushboo or Soori. Rajinikanth is shown throwing punches in various locations on various men. We see the shot where Rajinikanth is on a motorbike, aruvaa in one hand – the same visual we saw in the motion poster.
A solid 16 seconds of the teaser is devoted to celebrating Rajinikanth's stylish walk, as trucks serially explode behind him, while he nonchalantly twirls his moustache. Though the trailer might reveal other aspects of the film, the teaser suggests that Annaatthe is going to be an action-packed affair.
The first single 'Annaatthe Annaatthe' was released earlier this month, the last SPB-Rajini introduction song in a tradition of over three decades. The first look of Annaatthe was released in September, followed by a motion poster.
Apart from Rajinikanth, the film stars Meena, Khushboo, Nayanthara, Keerthy Suresh, Jackie Shroff, Jagapathi Babu, Prakash Raj, Soori and Satish. Annaatthe is directed by Siva and has music by D. Imman (Viswasam, Teddy, Laabam). Editing is by Ruben, cinematography by Vetri and action by Dhilip Subbarayan.
Produced by Sun Pictures, the film's production and release was postponed multiple times due to the pandemic in 2020. The makers have now officially announced that the film releases on Diwali 2021.
