Laal Singh Chaddha, the Forrest Gump (1994) adaptation has been in the news for years — Aamir Khan bought the rights of the film in 2018 and announced the film officially in early 2019, along with the title. Aamir Khan takes over the role of Tom Hanks, a specially-abled person. The trailer shows his coming of age, from wearing leg braces to, in a moment of miracle, running, winning, joining the Indian army wars, and being celebrated. The icononic line "Mama always said life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get," has become, in cultural translation, "Maa kehti thi zindagi golgappe ki tarah hoti hai, pet bhale bharjawe, mann nahi bharta."
Kareena Kapoor Khan plays Rupa, the woman he is in love with who has always been by his side and yet, is reluctant to be with him romantically. Mona Singh plays Aamir Khan's mother.
Adapted from Winston Groom's screenplay by Atul Kulkarni, the film directed by Advait Chandan (Secret Superstar) releases theatrically on August 11.
