The trailer for Gitanjali Rao's animated feature Bombay Rose is here.
Quite literally every frame a painting, the hand-painted animated feature has been six years in the making and you can see why in the painstaking effort put into in every frame. The stunning animation is bursting with colour, capturing the bustling city we all know so well and yet presenting it in a distinctive way.
Although, perhaps more than the visual style, it is the emotions of the characters and the story that shine through most in the trailer. The film follows a love story between two migrants who dream of a better life in the city of Bombay, in the face of endless obstacles.
Bombay Rose marks the long-awaited feature debut of Rao, one of the most respected names in Indian animation, known for her award-winning animated shorts Painted Rainbow (2006) and TrueLoveStory (2014). Aside from being selected as the opening film of the prestigious 34th Venice International Film Critics' Week, the film has also been announced as part of the official selection of this year's Toronto International Film Festival.
