The trailer of Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Doctor was released today by Sun TV. It begins with the typical droll humor of director Nelson Dilipkumar — we hear a Spanish voiceover followed by a character who says that he doesn't understand even a bit of it. We meet a fake family (that includes Priyanka Arul Mohan) that kidnaps kids — and they're headed by Sivakarthikeyan. How can it be possible that Sivakarthikeyan plays a kidnapper, that too operating a criminal gang in the guise of a family?

Gradually, we see that he's only 'kidnapping back' people who have been kidnapped by an organ trafficking mafia, in order to save them. Background score by Anirudh builds the mood up superbly right until the final part of the trailer where a bloody, beaten up Sivakarthikeyan is tied down as the villain threatens to slay a little girl in front of him — you hear a slowed down, drunk version of 'Oh Baby' crackle as the camera shows Sivakarthikeyan's beaten face: when asked who he is, he says he's 'Doctor'.

Apart from Sivakarthikeyan, the film has Vinay Rai, Priyanka Arul Mohan (who is also a part of Don, another upcoming Sivakarthikeyan-starrer), Yogi Babu, Milind Soman, Ilavarasu, Deepa Shankar and Redin Kingsley. Priyanka Arul Mohan was last seen in Sreekaram and Nani's Gang Leader. Vinay Rai returns to Tamil as a villain, after playing Devil in Mysskin's Thupparivaalan.Cinematography is by Vijay Kartik Kannan, editing by R. Nirmal, and music by Anirudh Ravichander. The audio of the film has already been released with 'Chellamma' clocking over 128 million views on YouTube.

After Namma Veettu Pillai and Hero, Sivakarthikeyan returns with Doctor amidst great expectations. It will also be interesting to see how director Nelson Dilipkumar handles a mass hero film, because he is the director of Vijay's Beast which is releasing in 2022.

Doctor releases in Tamil and Telugu (Varun the Doctor). It was supposed to release earlier this year, but was postponed due to the pandemic and Tamil Nadu state elections. Nelson is currently shooting Vijay-starrer Beast produced by Sun Pictures. He has also directed Nayanthara-starrer Kolamavu Kokila. Contrary to expectations that it might drop on OTT, Doctor releases in theatres on October 9.
