The trailer begins with dramatic Western classical music and visuals of an ancient gramophone. You immediately begin to feel you're in some kind of old-school Victorian murder mystery. Fahadh Faasil looks enigmatic and never blinks once in the trailer.

Soubin Shahir seems to be a novelist who has come to visit a rich person at his spooky mansion for an interview. It seems deserted except for the rich man and his wife (Darshana Rajendran). It looks like Soubin's character has written crime novels in which women are murdered. Things go crazy in the trailer once Fahadh's character (is he called Alex?) tells the novelist that he is wrong about the reason for his characters' vengeance against women. At the same time, we are shown a portrait of his mother. Is this a clue?

Irul looks like a thriller with just three people (and maybe also a corpse). The trailer ends with Darshana's character hiding under a table. Is she the victim? Or a witness to a crime? Is it the novelist who is dead? Why was the novelist trying to kill her husband? Something seems to have happened in their basement, and we are shown all three of them pointing guns at each other at different points in time.

The film, which was shot during the pandemic, is directed by Naseef Yusuf Izuddin and produced by Plan J Studios and Anto Joseph Film Company. Starring Fahadh Faasil, Soubin Shahir, and Darshana Rajendran, Irul is set to release on Netflix on April 2, 2021.
