Judgemental Hai Kya Trailer Talk: A Weirdly Meta Clash Between Stars

The trailer of Balaji Telefilms' much-discussed Rajkummar Rao and Kangana Ranaut-starrer Judgemental Hai Kya (previously titled Mental Hai Kya) is not exactly what was expected. What was rumoured to be a rom-com focusing on the issues of mental health is actually, in part, a murder mystery.

It's a busy trailer; it's hard to peg to one specific genre, which makes it all the more intriguing. We are introduced to Kangana Ranaut as the confidently unhinged Bobby who opts to be put in a mental asylum after facing criminal charges. A noticeably bulked-up Rajkummar Rao is Keshav, the man she is supposedly obsessed with. This quickly escalates to talk of a murder where one of them is supposedly the culprit.

With shades of Ittefaq and Gone Girl, it becomes her word against his as they go head to head claiming the other is crazy and weaving a worryingly intricate tale to incriminate the other. Sound familiar?

Written by Manmarziyan's Kanika Dhillon and directed by Prakash Kovelamudi, the film releases on July 26th.
