Kabir Singh Teaser Talk: Shahid Kapoor Breaks Bad In The Hindi Remake Of The Celebrated Telugu Film Arjun Reddy

The teaser for Shahid Kapoor-starrer Kabir Singh has arrived.

The film is a remake of the celebrated 2017 Telugu film Arjun Reddy starring Vijay Devarakonda which was hailed a game-changer for Telugu cinema. While the words 'Bollywood remake' aren't typically very encouraging, what makes this more hopeful is that it's the same director, Sandeep Vanga, at the helm. One can only hope that rather than a scene-for-scene remake, Kabir Singh is an effective Bollywood adaption of the same source material, much like what R.S Prasanna did so wonderfully with his Shubh Mangal Saavdhaan.

The teaser opens with a voiceover speaking of Kabir's 'impeccable academic record' as a talented medical student against visuals of a noticeably flabby Shahid Kapoor downing whiskey from the bottle. Against an explosive, energetic background score we get flashes of him preparing for surgery, stocking large bottles of alcohol, snorting cocaine and getting into fights at college.

The film tells a Devdas-esque tale about a selfish, self-obsessed medical student who goes on a journey of self-destruction and alcoholism after his girlfriend (played by Kiara Advani) leaves him. Kabir Singh marks the actress' first leading role after all the hype she created with her winning performance in Karan Johar's segment of Lust Stories.

Kabir Singh is slated for June 21 release. You can watch the teaser below
