Jude Anthony Joseph's 2018 details the horrors of the 2018 Kerala floods and how people came together to save each other. The film goes with the tagline, "Everyone is a hero." When the floods hit the state four years back, the Indian government declared it a 'calamity of severe nature' and it has been called the 'worst flood in nearly a century'.
Inspired by true incidents, the film's teaser opens up with gusty winds and heavy rainfall. "Two major cyclonic depressions have been forecasted," the teaser tells us. While some of them enjoy the sudden downpour, many struggle to live in their houses with walls collapsing and water finding its way in.
The Navy and Army are set to start their rescue mission the next day. But there is a sense of panic and urgency as the government wonders how to survive the night and save the people. There are many in trouble, but it looks like a small child needs immediate care, as towards the end, we see Tovino Thomas holding the child and hanging by a rope from a helicopter.
2018 features an ensemble cast including Tovino Thomas, Kunchako Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Aparna Balamurali, Kalaiyarasan, Narain, Lal, Indrans and Aju Varghese.
