The acid-washed (Sanjay Gupta Filter™) top-shots of Mumbai lure us to a time when "Bombay was not yet Mumbai". The 1996 rechristening of the city is thus seen as a dividing moment. 'Bombay' was when "violence ruled the streets", accompanied by a background score that sounds eerily similar to 'Ruk Ja' from Ram Gopal Varma's Aag.
John Abraham plays the kohl eyed Amartya Rao, the gunda with gumption. Emraan Hashmi plays his khaki-clad foil. Suniel Shetty, Mahesh Manjrekar, Gulshan Grover, Prateik Babbar, and Kajal Aggarwal are also part of this multi-starrer threading the tale of the making of Mumbai with saffron flags and blood drenched shootouts. This film was one of the first major Bollywood productions to continue shooting amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series, Krishan Kumar, Anuradha Gupta, and Sangeeta Ahir, written and directed by Sanjay Gupta, the film will get a theatrical release on March 19, 2021.
