Notebook Trailer Talk: Salman Khan Launches Two Newcomers With A Love Story Set In Kashmir

Firdaus and Kabir, the leads in Notebook, are at the centre of an unusual love story. Kabir is in love with Firdaus without ever having met her. He doesn't even know how she looks. He knows about her through the seven children he teaches in an isolated school in Kashmir – where she used to teach before – and which is described as a place so far that "even hope reaches late there."

All he's got is a notebook she left behind. This is the central idea in the Salman Khan Films production, which introduces newcomers Pranutan Bahl and Zaheer Iqbal.

The Kashmir in Notebook looks quiet and desolate, pretty and sanitised (there is one brief moment that shows an army officer and a bomb blast).

The only characters in the film other than the leads are a bunch of kids, one of who likes to speak through dumb charade. There are a half dozen Kashmiri folk songs, including a new version of Bhumbro (yes, another remix).

The film is directed by Nitin Kakkar, who made the competent and surprisingly moving Filmistaan. The lead actor of that film Sharib Hashmi has co-written the dialogue along with Payal Ashar, while the screenplay is by Darab Farooqi.

Produced by Salma Khan, Murad Khetani, Ashwin Varde, the film will release in theatres on March 29.
