In Salute, Dulquer Salmaan plays police officer Aravind Karunakaran. The teaser reveals precious little about the character, and nothing at all about the plot. We are shown protestors barricading a police vehicle, daring him to come out and face them.
A hand picks up a police hat and out comes Dulquer Salmaan's Aravind Karunakaran in slow motion — prim, steely eyed, and with a face that betrays neither agitation nor anger. He stares at the crowd, the music reaches a crescendo, and the teaser ends, suggesting that this might not be the usual police thriller. The protagonist (at least, in the teaser) doesn't seem to be up against a thug or a corrupt politician. We have to wait for the trailer to reveal more about Aravind Karunakaran and the plot.
Dulquer had previously played a cop in Vikramadithyan. Salute is written by Bobby and Sanjay with music by Santhosh Narayanan and cinematography by Aslam K. Puraiyil. The film stars Dulquer Salmaan (whose last releases were Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal and Varane Avashyamund), Diana Penty, Manoj K Jayan and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy.
Salute is directed by Rosshan Andrrews whose last film Prathi Poovankozhi (starring Manju Warrier) released in 2019. The film is produced by Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films (which had earlier produced Maniyarayile Ashokan). The teaser of his film Kurup, a crime thriller about the notorious Sukumara Kurup, dropped recently.
