Seethakathi Trailer Talk: Vijay Sethupathi As ‘Ayya’, An Ageing Superstar Who Is Bigger Than His Stardom

Is there anything this man can't do? That is likely to be one of the first questions that come to mind after watching Vijay Sethupathi play an aged actor in Seethakathi, his 25^th film.

Directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, Seethakathi sees Sethupathi return to the team behind one of his first hits as a lead actor, Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom. 

The trailer opens with visuals of stalled shoots because an actor does not show up. The absence of the actor in question, Ayya Aadimoolam, forces producers to take up the issue with the Producer's Council, even as visuals of fans thronging the screens of one of his films are shown.

Yet halfway through the trailer, beyond the loudness and roars of a first day first show of a superstar's films, we're shown 'Ayya', sitting in silence, far removed from the hysteria he is causing elsewhere.

Ayya, instead, is seen walking around carrying a young boy on his shoulders, and then playing with him, indifferent to his films, producers or his fans.

Glimpses of a court case follow and also the image of an auditorium in full capacity. Could Seethakathi be the story of a popular and powerful film actor, leaving all of that behind to return to the stage?

Will he be able to bring back the glory days of Tamil theater and fill all the seats that now lay vacant?

We'll have to wait till December 20 to find out.

The film's music is by Govind Vasantha, who had recently scored for the actor's 96. Directors Bharathiraja, Mahendran and Raam  make an appearance in the trailer of the film, which also stars Remya Nambeesan and Parvathy Nair.
