The year 2020 has been bad for movies. With theatres closed for more than half the year, people have been waiting for a 'big' movie to hit their OTT screens. The time seems ripe for Sudha Kongara's Suriya-starrer Soorarai Pottru to drop on Amazon Prime Video. This might also be the big ticket that the OTT platform was waiting for all the while.
The trailer of the film which will now release on November 12, dropped today. It talks about Nedumaaran Rajangam's (Suriya) idea to sell flight tickets for just Re 1 per person. It is, of course, an impossible dream, say many, but anything can happen in this world.
After a series of failures at the box office (NGK and Kaappaan), Suriya seems to have gone back to his strengths. His rugged look and the sprinkling of cuss words suit the character he plays.
The film is inspired by Air Deccan's founder GR Gopinath's autobiography Simply Fly, and that makes it all the more interesting a film to look forward to, for it flits between his life in the Air Force and his dream of starting a low-cost airline.
Soorarai Pottru has a stellar cast that includes Aparna Balamurali, Mohan Babu, Urvashi, Achyuth Kumar and Paresh Rawal. GV Prakash Kumar's background score seems on point.
