Jagame Thandhiram, starring Dhanush, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, and the Scottish actor James Cosmo, seems to be the biggest Tamil film of the summer. The trailer which is out now features many well-known faces and considering it's directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the maker of Pizza, Jigarthanda, and Petta, it'll be interesting to keep an eye on the climactic twist.

Dhanush, who's basking in the success of his latest release, Karnan, will be seen as a gangster in the new Netflix film. His journey from the streets of Tamil Nadu to London looks promising and we're sure that Santhosh Narayanan's music will be an asset to the action thriller. Haven't we already been dancing to "Rakita, Rakita, Rakita" every day already?

The trailer has an interesting dialogue in which Lekshmi's character reminds the hero that there are Tamil people in other parts of the world, as well. Usually, when we talk about Tamils, we think about one particular state in South India. But there's a huge population of Tamils in many Asian and Western countries. The film looks like the journey of a local gangster to London, and we are also shown snippets of the characters of Joju George and Kalaiyarasan in action. The trailer ends with Dhanush's Suruli feeling satisfied that he is a solid gangster in London too.

Jagame Thandhiram was supposed to release in the summer of 2020 but was delayed due to the pandemic. It's now releasing straight to a streaming platform. The teaser of the film was dropped in February and focussed on introducing Dhanush's character.

The first part of the teaser revealed a little about Suruli. Dhanush is shown in two avatars. In the first, he is the owner of a hotel, and there are hints that he's a gangster under the hood. In the second, he seems to be a gangster in London. Dhanush is full of easy swagger, and the teaser is made up of shots of him — especially the final punch dialogue — exuding coolth.

In a note about the film, director Karthik Subbaraj said, "Jagame Thandhiram is my dream film that was made with the ambition of telling a gripping story, about a globally prevalent issue, through a locally rooted character — in the most interesting and entertaining way. Audiences will yet again see Dhanush bring his immense talent and entertainment to the table across 190 countries on Netflix."

The film has music by Santhosh Narayanan (who scored recently for Karnan) and cinematography by Shreyaas Krishna. Vivek Harshan is the editor. It stars Dhanush, Joju George, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Kalaiyarasan, Sharath Ravi and James Cosmo. It's produced by S Sashikanth of YNOT studios in association with Reliance Entertainment. The film will be out on Netflix on June 18.
