The long-awaited trailer for Maara is finally here. Madhavan plays the title role in the upcoming Tamil film, the remake of Malayalam hit Charlie with Dulquer Salmaan, in which he plays a wanderer. Shraddha Srinath reprises the role made popular by Parvathy.
Charlie is a cozy, little film that ticks all the boxes of a quirky romantic drama. Though there's a strand of love running through the movie, the protagonists do not have a face-to-face conversation till the climax. The entire narrative is centered on how Parvathy's character Tessa finds Charlie, a person who keeps moving from one place to another. After taking up the grand challenge of meeting him, she runs into various other people who all have only nice things to share about Charlie. Naturally, she's intrigued.
Shraddha, with whom Madhavan has co-starred in Vikram Vedha (2017), will be doing what Tessa did in the Tamil version. And you can clearly see those flashes in the trailer.
Here's some trivia — while Dulquer was a 20-something during the shoot of Charlie, Madhavan, in keeping with his age, plays a middle-aged wanderer. It'll be interesting to see what kind of a spin Madhavan gives his character.
Even if the Tamil remake is made with the same intention of taking the audience along on a tour of hill stations and making them fall in love with the locale, there must be something new to keep their curiosity alive.
Sshivada, Moulee and Alexander Babu also star in Maara, which has been directed by Dhilip Kumar. The movie will hit Amazon Prime Video on January 8, 2021.
