Trailer Talk: Lakshmi and Kolamaavu Kokila

It's been a busy day for Tamil cinema with many back-to-back audio and trailer launches. The most important among them are the trailers of the Nayanthara-starrer Kolamavu Kokila and the Prabhu Deva-starrer Lakshmi. Kolamavu Kokila is set for release this July and Lakshmi will also hit the theatres soon.

Kolamaavu Kokila

The word 'Kolamaavu' refers to imported Colombian cocaine. Nayanthara plays the titular character Kokila, a drug peddler who has to support her lower-middle class family comprising her father, mother and a college-going younger sister. The entire family is involved in a dangerous peddling assignment where they are answerable to dreaded gangsters. Yogi Babu, who is there to add some comedy with his one-sided love for Nayanthara, also gets sucked into their journey with his sidekick. It's quite remarkable to see Nayanthara in such a de-glam, demure role. This is something that she hasn't attempted before.

Saranya Ponvannan is back to playing a mother again but the setting is totally different this time around. Anirudh's groovy, energetic score and the visual treatment promise to be other highlights of this Nelson directorial. The film can be described as a dark, edgy thriller with comedy and emotions thrown in. The way the trailer ends is quite intriguing.

Lakshmi 

Prolific director Vijay's Lakshmi features the 'King of Dance' Prabhu Deva along with Aishwarya Rajesh and young dance prodigy Ditya Bhande in lead roles. Sam CS has scored the music and has delivered well. The trailer clearly states that it's the story of a dancing legend and his extraordinary student. There are plenty of well-shot, slick dance sequences and the dancing talent is spectacular. Needless to say, Prabhu Deva's single shot dance sequence at the end of the trailer is mind-blowing. The emotional conflicts in the story arise from the mother (played by Aishwarya Rajesh) who isn't willing to see her daughter get into music and dance; there is also a rival dance master for Prabhu Deva. Vijay's regulars – cameraman Nirav Shah and editor Anthony bring their experience to the table for Lakshmi as well.
