On 18th September 2016, 19 Indian soldiers were killed at the Uri base camp in Kashmir. This was called the deadliest attack on the Indian Army in at least two decades. In retaliation to the attack, special forces of the Indian Army conducted surgical strikes to destroy terror launchpads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on 29 September, 2016. Written and directed by Aditya Dhar, Uri, the film, is a dramatised retelling of the surgical strike and the 11 days that led up to it. Leading the charge is a beefed up Vicky Kaushal who solemnly declares, "main aapke har ek sipahi ko zinda sahi salamat vaapas launga" and "waqt aa gaya hai, khoon se badla khoon lene ka." His crack team for the mission includes actors Yami Gautam, Mohit Raina and Kirti Kulhari. The film also stars Paresh Rawal.
The action-thriller has been produced by Ronnie Screwvala's RSVP films and will release of January 11.
